Nommon explores how artificial intelligence is redefining transport planning and operations at the Nommon Innovation Days
  • On Thursday, 28 May 2026, Nommon hosted a new edition of the Nommon Innovation Days, focusing on the evolution of transport planning and operations in the era of artificial intelligence.
  • The event brought together over one hundred professionals at the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid (COAM) to discuss the applications of big data and artificial intelligence within the transport and mobility sector.

Nommon, a technology company specialising in the use of big data and artificial intelligence to develop decision-support tools, held its latest ‘Nommon Innovation Days’ last Thursday, 28 May, at the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid (COAM). This year, the discussion explored how transport planning and operations are evolving in the age of artificial intelligence.

The event was opened by Ricardo Herranz, CEO of Nommon, who contextualised the company’s role within the smart mobility ecosystem. He outlined a programme that combined product presentations, case studies, and a high-level panel discussion throughout the day. Following this, Luisa Chaves, Business Development Director at Nommon, presented the latest innovations in the company’s product suite, linking various solutions to the specific challenges faced by transport operators and authorities.

Understanding mobility through big data and artificial intelligence

The first content block was dedicated to transforming data into actionable insights for understanding mobility patterns. Bruna Calazans, Mobility Analytics Director, presented Mobility Insights, Nommon’s analytical solution that enables a deeper understanding of mobility by combining mobile network data with other information sources and AI techniques. Her presentation detailed how the tool transforms vast volumes of data into precise diagnostics regarding travel patterns and passenger behaviour. At the end of the session, Miguel Picornell, Product Manager, offered a live demonstration of the platform, highlighting new developments from the past year, including enhanced data visualisation and analysis tools, and the “My Studies” section, which allows users to create, save, and share mobility studies with third parties.

This block also featured two case studies illustrating the practical application of these solutions in distinct contexts. Guillermo Maldonado, CEO of TEMA Grupo Consultor, S.A, shared his organisation’s experience using Nommon’s tools for mobility analysis in transport consultancy projects. Additionally, Miguel Pintor, Head of the Technical Service for Roads and Mobility at the Cabildo de Tenerife, explained how the island authority leverages big data to improve road network planning and mobility policies across the archipelago. Both testimonials highlighted the versatility of Nommon’s solutions in adapting to different territorial requirements.

From diagnosis to transport optimisation

The second block shifted from description to prediction, demonstrating how artificial intelligence enables not just the understanding of mobility, but its active optimisation. David Mocholí, Aviation Director at Nommon, presented WisePax, Nommon’s solution for improving air connectivity. During his presentation, he explained how the tool can increase operational efficiency and optimise connection offerings at airports and across aviation networks.

Subsequently, Rubén Artime, Director of Transport Systems, and Javier Torres, Product Manager, showcased the capabilities of WiseTransit and WiseRide for the optimisation of public transport and shared mobility. These tools allow operators to anticipate demand, redesign services in real-time, and reduce operational costs. The presentation focused on two use cases. The first one demonstrated how understanding mobility needs, gaining deeper knowledge of users, and identifying areas with insufficient public transport coverage can contribute to more efficient planning and the attraction of new passengers. The second one addressed how the use of big data allows operators to anticipate demand, diagnose operational issues, and optimise the performance of the transport network.

The block concluded with an intervention by José Carlos Reguilón, Customer Director at EMT Madrid, who shared firsthand the experience of the Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid in their collaboration with Nommon.

The future of transport: R&D strategy and new products

Following the networking session, the event delved into the horizon of innovation. Oliva García-Cantú, R&D Director at Nommon, presented the company’s R&D strategy. Her contribution provided an overview of active research projects and the technological lines that will guide the evolution of Nommon’s portfolio in the coming years. She noted that while AI opens up a universe of new possibilities, it remains essential to maintain a focus on people and the structural problems that challenge the sustainable development of cities.

Following this, Raquel Sánchez, Director of Nommon Lab, presented products currently under development, with a specific focus on the InCharge project. This project leverages the capabilities of Nommon’s location intelligence solution, InSite, to optimise the planning and deployment of new charging points for electric vehicles.

AI agents in mobility management: risks and opportunities

The event closed with a round table moderated by Luis Willumsen, Managing Partner at Nommon. The session brought together two prominent sector experts to reflect on the growing role of AI agents in mobility management and the questions this technology raises: Laia Pagès, Scientific Director at CARNET-UPC, and Javier Burrieza, Data & AI Presales Engineer at Fujitsu, provided complementary perspectives from academic research and the technology industry, respectively.

Nommon Innovation Days: driving dialogue on the future of transport

In a context marked by technological acceleration and the increasing complexity of mobility systems, Nommon Innovation Days has established itself as a space for the exchange of ideas and experiences regarding the challenges facing the sector. This event, which has been running since 2016, brings together experts, operators, public administrations, and technology companies to debate how data, artificial intelligence, and new analytical tools are transforming transport planning and operation. Through real-world use cases and innovative experiences, the event fosters the sharing of knowledge and the search for solutions towards more efficient, sustainable, and people-centred mobility.
